茅薦（上莫包反切韻草名也爾雅曰芓明也郭注引左傳云前茅慮無也下作甸反考聲云薦進也切韻草薦席也古今正字並從草薦聲薦音同上）。

Thatch mat (茅薦: the first [character] is *mao*, fanqie 莫包. The Qieyun says: 'The name of a grass.' The Erya says: '芓 means bright.' Guo's commentary cites the Zuozhuan: 'Advance scouts with reeds were vigilant against peril.' The second [character] is fanqie 作甸. The Kaosheng says: '薦 means to advance.' The Qieyun says: 'A grass mat.' The Gujin zhengzi writes it derived from the grass radical 草 with 薦 as phonetic; 薦 has the same sound as above).
