庳脚(上音婢切韻下也玉篇短也屋下也左氏官室卑庳無臺觀也說文從土作埤伏舍也又音卑經文從示作裨助也非經義也)。

Low-legged (庳脚: the first [character] is pronounced *bi*. The Qieyun says: 'Low.' The Yupian says: 'Short; low buildings.' The Zuozhuan says: 'The palace chambers were low and cramped, without observation terraces.' The Shuowen jiezi writes it with the earth radical 土 as 埤, meaning a low dwelling; also pronounced *bei*. In the sūtra text it is written with the altar radical 示 as 裨, meaning to aid, which is not the meaning in the sūtra).
