飛蛾(上甫非反切韻飛翔也說文云如鳥飜飛像形字也經本有作蜚音費臭蟲也下五何反大戴禮云虫食桑者有絲而變形而飛為蛾也說文從虫我聲也)。

Moths (飛蛾: the upper character has the fanqie *fǔ* + *fēi* [fēi]; the *Qieyun* says, "To soar." The *Shuowen* says, "Fluttering like a bird"; it is a pictographic character. In some sūtra manuscripts it is written as 蜚, pronounced *fèi*, which is a foul insect. The lower character has the fanqie *wǔ* + *hé* [é]; the *Da Dai Liji* says, "Insects that eat mulberry leaves have silk; they transform their shape and fly, becoming moths." The *Shuowen* says it is categorized under "insect" with *wǒ* phonetic).
