苗稼（上武儦反切韻田苗考聲云未秀者也說文云從草在田上也下古訝反詩云俾民稼穡書云種曰稼歛曰穡說文從禾嫁省聲）。

Sprouts and crops (苗稼: the upper character has the fanqie *wǔ* + *biāo* [miáo]; the *Qieyun* says, "Field sprouts." The *Kaosheng* says, "Those not yet in ear." The *Shuowen* says it is categorized under "grass" situated above a "field". The lower character has the fanqie *gǔ* + *yà* [jià]; the *Shijing* says, "Causing the people to sow and harvest." The *Shangshu* says, "Planting is called *jià*, and reaping is called *sè*." The *Shuowen* says it is categorized under "grain" with an abbreviated *jià* phonetic).
