雷電（上嚕迴反說文作靁易曰天雷無妄論衡云陰陽氣激也下堂練反玉篇云閃電也釋名曰電𣧠也謂乍現則𣧠滅也說文陰陽激輝也從雨[電-雨]音申）。

雷電 [Thunder and lightning]: The upper [character] has the fanqie 嚕迴 (lǔ + huí = léi); the Shuowen writes it as 靁. The Yijing says, “Heaven's thunder: Innocent.” The Lunheng says, “The clash of yin and yang energies.” The lower [character] has the fanqie 堂練 (táng + liàn = diàn); the Yupian says, “Flashing lightning.” The Shiming says, “電 is extinction (𣧠), meaning that as soon as it appears it is extinguished.” The Shuowen says, “The clashing brilliance of yin and yang; it derives from 雨 with [電-雨], sounded as 申.”
