霹靂（上疋覓反下靈的反文字典說云霹靂大雷擊物也論衡云天地為爐陰陽為氣相擊之聲也說文云從雨辟歷聲也經本有從石作礔礰二形俗用非本字也）。

霹靂 [Thunderclap]: The upper [character] has the fanqie 疋覓 (pǐ + mì = pì); the lower has 靈的 (líng + dí = lì). The Wenzidian says, “霹靂 is great thunder striking things.” The Lunheng says, “Heaven and earth act as the furnace, yin and yang as the energy, and this is the sound of their colliding.” The Shuowen says, “It derives from 雨 with the phonetics 辟 and 歷.” Sūtra editions have forms with 石 as 礔 and 礰, which are colloquial usages and not the original characters.
