蚯蚓 [Earthworm]: The upper [character] has the sound 丘 (qiū); the lower [character] has the sound 引 (yǐn); the Qieyun says, “Name of a worm.” The lower is also written 螾. The ‘Yueling’ of the Liji says, “In the first month of summer, earthworms emerge.” The Erya says, “螼蚓”; Guo Pu's commentary says, “South of the Yangtze they are called cold worms (寒蚓).” 螼 has the fanqie 羗引 (qiāng + yǐn = qǐn).
