置胯（上竹吏反切韻安也說文云委也從罒直聲下開化反考聲兩股間也或作跨越也非此用也）。

置胯 [Placed on the hip]: The upper [character] has the fanqie 竹吏 (zhú + lì = zhì); the Qieyun says, “To place.” The Shuowen says, “To entrust; it derives from 罒 with the phonetic 直.” The lower [character] has the fanqie 開化 (kāi + huà = kuà); the Kaosheng says, “Between the two thighs.” It is also written 跨, meaning to step over, which is not the usage here.
