側捩（上阻力反切韻傍側也下綀結反玉篇云拗捩也從手戾聲戾音同上說文作戾犬在戶下也經文從糸作綟廣韻麻小結也非側捩手指結印義）。

側捩 [Twisting sideways]: The upper [character] has the fanqie 阻力 (zǔ + lì = zhè); the Qieyun says, “Beside, aside.” The lower [character] has the fanqie 綀結 (shū + jié = liè); the Yupian says, “To twist and turn. It derives from 手 [hand] with the phonetic 戾.” 戾 has the same sound as above. The Shuowen writes 戾 as a dog under a doorway. In the sūtra text it derives from 糸 as 綟; the Guangyun says it is a small knot of hemp, which does not convey the meaning of twisting the fingers to form a mudrā.
