船舶(上食川反方言云關東曰船關西曰舟說文云從舟沿省聲沿與專反沿路之沿鉛錫之鉛皆放此律文從公作船作舡皆俗字下傍陌反切韻海中大船也從舟白聲)。

船舶 (the first character is sh[í] + chu[ān] fanqie; the Fangyan says: "East of the Pass it is called chuán; west of the Pass it is called zhōu." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Composed with the boat radical and a simplified yán phonetic." Yán is y[ǔ] + zhu[ān] fanqie; the yán of yánlù ("along the way") and the qiān of qiānxī ("lead and tin") are all based on this. The Vinaya text uses the gōng radical, writing 船 or 舡, both being vernacular characters. The second character is b[àng] + m[ò] fanqie; the Qieyun says: "A large ocean ship." Composed with the boat radical and bái phonetic).
