Imperial carriage (車輅: the first character is [pronounced] 九魚 [chē]; the second character is [pronounced] 洛故 [lù]; the Shiming says: "That which is ridden by the Son of Heaven is called a chēlù." The Da Dai Li says: "The carriages of antiquity: the round canopy resembles Heaven; the square cross-bar resembles Earth; the twenty-eight spokes resemble the twenty-eight lunar mansions; the thirty spokes resemble the number of days of the sun and moon. Looking up, one observes the celestial patterns; looking down, one surveys the terrestrial layout; looking forward, one watches the sounds of the bells; looking to the sides, one observes the movement of the four seasons").
