胄族（上直又反尚書云命汝典樂教胄子孔傳云胄長也謂元子已下至卿大夫子弟也字林胤也說文云從由月聲月音上報反下昨木反韻詮云宗族也爾雅云父之從祖祖父為族曾王父父之從祖祖母為族曾王母又曰族晜弟之子相謂為親同姓郭璞注云同姓之親無服也）。

Noble lineage and clan (胄族: the first character is [pronounced with the] fanqie [initial and final of] 直 and 又; the Book of Documents says 'I order you to oversee music and educate the noble sons'; Kong's Commentary says that 'zhòu' means eldest, referring to the eldest sons down to the sons and younger brothers of ministers and grand masters; the Zilin says descendants; the Shuowen says it takes 'yóu' and the phonetic 'yuè'; 'yuè' is pronounced with the fanqie [initial and final of] 上 and 報. The second character is [pronounced with the] fanqie [initial and final of] 昨 and 木; the Yunquan says ancestral clan; the Erya says the cousin of one's father or grandfather is a clan great-grandfather, and the wife of the cousin of one's father is a clan great-grandmother; it also says that the sons of clan brothers call one another relatives of the same surname; Guo Pu's commentary says that relatives of the same surname have no formal mourning degrees).
