Feathered dispatch (羽檄: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] wang + ju; the Shuowen says it means bird feathers; the second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] hu + di; the Erya says: "A branchless [wooden tablet] is a xi"; the Shuowen says: "A military dispatch is a three-foot wooden tablet"; it is formed from wood [木] with the abbreviated form of ji [激] as phonetic; some write it with hand [手], which is incorrect).
