Perforating and chiseling (穿鑿: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] chang + yuan; the Qieyun says it means "to penetrate"; the second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] zai + ge; the Kaosheng says it means "to chisel"; the Gu kaoshi says: "Meng Zhuangzi invented the chisel"; the Shuowen says: "That with which one perforates wood"; it is formed from metal [金] with the abbreviated form of zuo [鑿-金+木] as phonetic; [鑿-金+木] is pronounced zuo).
