Wildcat and civet (貓貍: the first character has the fanqie 莫 + 交. The Shijing says: "There are cats resembling tigers." The Qieyun says: "Beasts that catch mice." The second character has the fanqie 力 + 之. The Qieyun says: "Wild civet." The Erya says: "The chu (貙) resembles a civet." Guo [Pu's] commentary says: "The chu belongs to the tiger family, large as a cat with patterns like a civet." Both characters are formed with the feline radical [豸]. The sūtra text writes them with the dog radical as 猫狸, which are not correct characters).
