盲龜 (for the first character, [máng], fanqie 武庚 [m- + -æŋ = mˠæŋ/máng]. The Qieyun says: “Having no eyes.” The Wenzi says: “Music Master Kuang was blind (瞽盲).” The character books say: “盲 means seeing nothing.” For the second character, [guī], fanqie 居追 [k- + -wi = kwi/guī]. The Shuoyuan says: “The numinous turtle is five-coloured, resembling gold and jade; its back is dark (yin) and its belly faces the sun (yang). Elevated above, it resembles heaven; flat below, it models the earth.” The Da Dai Liji says: “There are three hundred and sixty-four shelled creatures, and the divine turtle is their elder.” The Erya says: “The first is called the divine turtle.” The Shanhaijing says: “Mount Daku has many three-legged turtles.”)
