[Pūrṇamaitrāyaṇīputra] The Wenju says: "Pūrṇa translates as 'Fulfilled Wish'; Maitrī translates as 'Benevolence'; ayāṇī indicates 'daughter'. His father prayed to Brahmā for a son at the full river when the river was completely full. He also dreamed that a vessel of the seven treasures, full of jewels, entered the mother's womb. When the mother conceived the child, the father's wish was granted; because all wishes were fulfilled, he was called 'Fulfilled Wish'. Maitrāyaṇī translates as 'Benevolent Practice', and also as 'Spiritual Friend'. There is such a chapter in the four Vedas, and his mother recited it, so he was named after it." He is also named Mizhizi, translating as 'Good Spiritual Friend'. Zhi Qian's translation of the Duwuji jing names him Manzhuzi ('Son of Fulfilled Prayer'), meaning that the father prayed to Brahmā at the full river and obtained this son. The Xiyu ji says: "Pūrṇamaitrāyaṇīputra is in Tang speech Mancizi ('Son of Fulfilled Benevolence'). Formerly it was erroneously abbreviated as Mituoluonizi."
