【摩訶迦旃延】什曰：「南天竺婆羅門姓也，善解契經者。」《淨名疏》云：「此翻不定，有云扇繩，有云文飾，未知孰正。」或曰：「此云離有無破我慢心。」

[Mahākātyāyana] Kumārajīva said: "A brāhmaṇa clan name of South India; he was skilled in interpreting the sūtras." The Jingming shu says: "Translations of this vary: some say 'Fan Rope', some say 'Literary Adornment'; it is unknown which is correct." Another says: "Here translated as 'Departing from Existence and Non-Existence, Destroying the Mind of Conceit'."
