【義淨】齊州人，俗姓張，字文明。髫齓之年，辭榮落䰂，遍詢名匠，廣探群籍。內外通曉，今古遍知。年十有五，志遊西域，遍師名匠，學大小乘。所為事周，還歸故里。凡所遊歷，三十餘國。往來問道，出二十年。天后證聖，河洛翻譯。

[Yijing] A native of Qizhou, his secular surname was Zhang, and his courtesy name was Wenming. In the years of childhood hair, he renounced worldly glory and had his hair shaved; he sought out famous masters everywhere, and broadly explored various writings. He was thoroughly conversant in both inner and outer [learning], and knew everything past and present. At the age of fifteen, he set his mind on traveling to the Western Regions, serving under famous masters everywhere and studying the Great and Small Vehicles. When the tasks he undertook were complete, he returned to his native land. In all, he traveled through more than thirty kingdoms. Coming and going to inquire about the Way, he spent over twenty years. In the Zhengsheng era of the Heavenly Empress, he translated in the Yellow River and Luo region.
