【實叉難陀】唐言學喜。于闐國人。智度弘曠，利物為心。善大小乘，兼異學論。天后明揚佛日，敬重大乘，以《華嚴》舊經處會未備，遠聞于闐有斯梵本，發使迎請。實叉與經同來，赴洛重譯。

[Śikṣānanda] In the language of the Tang: "Learning-Joy" (Xuexi). A native of the kingdom of Khotan. His wisdom and forbearance were vast and expansive, taking benefiting sentient beings as his purpose. He was skilled in the Great and Small Vehicles, and also in the treatises of divergent teachings. The Heavenly Empress promoted and exalted the sun of the Buddha, revering the Great Vehicle; because the old translation of the *Avataṃsaka* was incomplete in its locations and assemblies, and she had heard from afar that Khotan possessed this Sanskrit manuscript, she dispatched an envoy to invite him. Śikṣānanda came together with the scripture, arriving in Luoyang to make a new translation.
