【摩摩帝】或云毘呵羅莎弭（名婢）。此云寺主。《僧史略》云：「詳其寺主，起乎東漢白馬寺也。寺既爰處，人必主之。于時雖無寺主之名，而有知事之者。東晉以來，此職方盛，故梁武造光宅寺，召法雲為寺主，創立僧制。」

[Mamate] Or vihārasvāmin (min is pronounced bi). Here translated as "abbot" (temple master). The Sengshi lüe says: "Examining the origin of the abbot, it began with the White Horse Temple of the Eastern Han. Once a temple was established as a dwelling, a person necessarily had to preside over it. At that time, although there was not yet the title of 'abbot', there was one who handled affairs. From the Eastern Jin onward, this office first flourished; therefore Emperor Wu of Liang built Guangzhai Temple and summoned Fayun to be its abbot, instituting monastic regulations."
