[One cubit (hasta)]: For an ordinary human, it is one chi and eight cun; for the Buddha, it is three chi and six cun. Regarding 'one encircle (wei)': the Zhuangzi yin says, 'A diameter of one chi is called a wei.' Regarding 'one fathom (ren)': the Shuowen says, 'A ren means the stretch of both arms, which is one xun.' The Shiji together with Zheng Xuan both state that seven chi is called a ren. The 'Xiaoya' states: 'Four chi is called a ren; double that is called a xun. A xun is the extension of both arms.' Some say: five chi is called a xun, and double a xun is called a chang.
