【伽耶】此云山城，去菩提道場約二十里。《西域記》云：「城甚險固，城西南五六里至伽耶山，谿谷杳冥，峯巒危嶮。印度國俗，稱曰靈山。自昔君王馭宇承統，化洽遠大，德隆前代，莫不登封而告成功。」

[Gayā] Here it is translated as Mountain City, about twenty *li* from the Bodhimaṇḍa. The *Xiyu ji* says: “The city is very perilous and firm; five or six *li* southwest of the city one reaches Mount Gayā. The valleys are deep and dark, and the peaks are precipitous and perilous. The Indian custom calls it the Sacred Mountain. From antiquity, when sovereigns governed the realm and inherited the lineage, extending their transformative influence far and wide, with virtue surpassing previous dynasties, none failed to ascend and perform the *feng* sacrifice to announce their success.”
