【闍陀伽】此云本生。此說菩薩行，因本曾為事也。《顯揚論》云：「本事者，謂如來說聖弟子前世等事。本生，謂如來說菩薩本所修行相應等事。」

[Jātaka] This translates as "birth stories." This recounts the bodhisattva's practices, the matters formerly performed in past lives. The Prakaraṇāryavācā Śāstra says: "'Past events' refers to the Tathāgata speaking of matters such as the previous lives of holy disciples. 'Birth stories' refers to the Tathāgata speaking of matters corresponding to the bodhisattva's original practices."
