[Jihvā]: Here translated as "capable of tasting," because it is capable of removing hunger and thirst. The Yogācārabhūmi says: "It is capable of removing hunger, thirst, and emaciation, and repeatedly utters speech to make known and summon; therefore it is named 'tongue,' which has the meaning of being capable of tasting." The Śūraṅgama-sūtra says: "The tongue is like an inverted crescent moon." Or it is said: "The tongue is like a crescent moon blade."
