[Translators]: Tang Taizong's poem on the Scripture-Burning Platform: 'The gate and paths are desolately overgrown with green moss; / Each time I climb here, I linger in contemplation. / Do not say the green ox left merely via Hangu Pass; / The white horse arrived in person directly from India. / Solid verification of right and wrong relied on the blazing fire; / To separate the genuine from the false, a high platform was built. / Even the spring breeze seems to dislike the disorder, / Blowing away the ashes of Daoism from those bygone years.' Tripiṭaka Master Yijing of the Tang composed a poem on seeking scriptures, saying: 'Between the Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, and Tang eras, / Eminent monks seeking the Dharma departed Chang'an. / Those who went numbered in hundreds, but fewer than ten returned; / How could those who come later know the hardships of those before? / On the long road under azure skies, there was only bitter cold; / Sand rivers obscured the sun, and strength was exhausted. / If later worthies do not comprehend this purpose, / They will often regard the scriptures too lightly.'
