[Śroṇakoṭīviṃśa] The Xiyu ji says: 'In the speech of Tang, it means Hearing Two Hundred Koṭīs. The old translation "Koṭī-Ears" is erroneous. An elder was enormously wealthy and had an heir late in life; when someone brought the news, he bestowed two hundred koṭīs of gold coins, and therefore named his son Hearing Two Hundred Koṭīs. When he grew to adulthood, he had never stepped on the ground, so the soles of his feet had hair over a foot long, glossy, delicate, and soft.' The Xiyu ji also says: 'Being rich with one koṭī of wealth and one lakṣa, he wore pearl pendants in his ears so that people would know his wealth. Or it is said that he had pearl rings in his ears worth one koṭī.'
