[Śikṣamāṇā] Here called 'woman training in the Dharma.' The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya says: 'A maiden of eighteen should train in the precepts for two years.' It also says: 'One of young age who was once married and is ten years of age is given the six dharmas; the six dharmas in the Sarvāstivāda Vinaya train the mind. Only if she can maintain the six dharmas is she granted full ordination. The two years are to train the body, so it may be known whether there is a pregnancy.' The Shichao says: 'A śikṣamāṇī fully trains in three dharmas: first, training in the root precepts, which refers to the four parājikas; second, training in the six dharmas, which are what the karmavācanā calls touching with a lustful mind, stealing four coins from someone, killing an animal, minor false speech, eating at improper times, and drinking alcohol; third, training in the practices, which means all the precepts and practices of a fully ordained nun must be trained in. If she violates them during her training, she is given another two years of karmavācanā.' The Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya says: 'She sits below the fully ordained nuns and above the śrāmaṇerīs.' Now I present a verse: / 'Touching with a lustful mind, stealing four coins, / Killing an animal, minor false speech, / The precepts against eating at improper times and drinking alcohol: / These are called the six dharmas trained in by a śikṣamāṇā.'
