[Srotāpanna] The Jingang shu says: "This is translated as 'stream-enterer' (ruliu), and also as 'going against the stream' (niliu). As for severing the three factors, speaking in terms of going against, it is going against the stream of views among the four streams. As for realizing the fruition, speaking in terms of entering the stream, it is entering the stream of the eightfold noble path. Now the sūtra says it is named 'stream-enterer', and also says one does not enter forms, sounds, scents, and so forth—is this not two meanings?" The Sijiao yi translates it as "cultivating the undefiled" (xiuxi wulou), and the Kanzheng explains: "Because they first see the true principle."
