[Gandharva] Or Gandhara. The *Jingming shu* states: 'Translated here as fragrance-skandha; this is also a sky-soaring spirit. They do not eat wine and meat, but rely solely on fragrance to nourish their aggregates; they are the music spirits of the banner-inverting music of the Lord of Heaven, dwelling in the vajra caves south of Sumeru.' Kumārajīva said: 'They are heavenly music spirits. They dwell in the earth's mountains of ten jewels. When the gods wish to make music, extraordinary signs appear on this spirit's body, after which it ascends to heaven.' The new [translation] says: "those who walk seeking fragrance". Dharma Master Huanying says: "scent-smellers".'
