1. 【Pārājika】 In the Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya, its meaning corresponds to extreme evil, explained through three senses: First, regression and downfall, because by committing this offense one has no share in the fruits of the path; second, non-cohabitation, because not only does one lose the path, but one also may not cohabit within the two kinds of saṅgha that recite the precepts and perform karmans; third, falling into perdition, because upon shedding this body one falls into the Avīci Hell. The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya states: "Just like severing a person's head, which cannot be restored; if one violates this rule, one no longer remains a bhikṣu. A verse says: 'Those who commit evil deeds / are just like dead corpses; / the assembly will not tolerate or receive them; / therefore one should maintain the precepts.' Since ancient times, from the meaning of having one's share severed from the communal Dharma, it was translated by the name 'abandonment' (qi)." The Sutra on Maudgalyāyana Asking of Retributions for Offenses states: "One who commits a pārājika offense [faces a lifespan] like that of the Paranirmitavaśavartin Heaven, sixteen thousand years, falling into Naraka; in human reckoning, it is 92.16 billion years. This is falling into the Blazing Heat Hell (Tāpana), taking one thousand six hundred human years as one day and night in the Paranirmitavaśavartin Heaven."
