The Bodhisattvagarbha-sūtra says: Kāśyapa addressed Ānanda, saying, "Of the Dharma expounded by the Buddha, do not let a single word or single character be deficient or omitted. Gather what pertains to the Bodhisattva-piṭaka in one place; gather what pertains to the Śrāvaka-piṭaka in one place; and put what pertains to the Vinaya-piṭaka in one place." At that time Ānanda first brought forth the sūtras: the Garbhotpatti-piṭaka was the first; the Antarābhava-piṭaka, the second; the Mahāyāna-vaipulya-piṭaka, the third; the Vinaya-piṭaka, the fourth; the Daśabhūmika-bodhisattva-piṭaka, the fifth; the Kṣudraka-piṭaka, the sixth; the Vajra-piṭaka, the seventh; and the Buddha-piṭaka, the eighth. In this way, the scriptural Dharma of the Buddha Śākyamuni was complete.
