置難形神援譬薪火。庾闡發其議。謝瞻廣其意。然桓譚未及聞經。先著此言。有足奇者。宜其掇附。

Setting forth difficulties concerning form and spirit, they drew the analogy of firewood and fire. Yu Chan initiated the argument, and Xie Zhan expanded its meaning. Yet Huan Tan, before having heard the sūtras, had already written these words, which is truly remarkable; it is fitting that it be gathered and attached here.
