清信士嚴佛調臨淮人。綺年穎悟敏而好學。共安玄對譯善閑梵言。以靈帝中平五年歲次戊辰。於洛陽譯。古維摩詰經（二卷）。𣽈首菩薩無上清淨分衛經（二卷）。慧上菩薩問大善權經（二卷）。思意經（一卷）。內六波羅蜜經（一卷）。迦葉詰阿難經（一卷）。十慧經（一卷）。凡七部一十。卷理得音正盡經微旨。故安玄稱佛調出經省而不煩存本巧妙。

The upāsaka Yan Fodiao was a man of Linhuai. In his youth he was perceptive, quick-witted, and fond of learning. He translated in collaboration with An Xuan and was well skilled in Sanskrit. In the fifth year of Zhongping of Emperor Ling, the year wuchen [188 CE], he translated at Luoyang: the Gu weimojie jing (two fascicles), the Rushou pusa wushang qingjing fenwei jing (two fascicles), the Huishang pusa wen da shanquan jing (two fascicles), the Siyi jing (one fascicle), the Nei liu boluomi jing (one fascicle), the Jiaye jie anan jing (one fascicle), and the Shi hui jing (one fascicle); altogether seven texts in ten fascicles. The principles were grasped and the sounds were accurate, fully conveying the subtle intent of the scriptures. Therefore An Xuan praised Fodiao's scriptural translations as succinct without verbosity, preserving the original with marvelous subtlety.
