Translated in the twelfth year of Zhenyuan and presented in the fourteenth year, not included here. Together with the previous translations by Tripiṭaka Master Prajñā, there are seventy fascicles in total, all gathered into the Great Catalogue of the Zhenyuan Canon, together with the preceding totaling twenty-three cases.
The above is submitted by the śramaṇa Yuanzhao: In the fourth month of last year, on the Emperor's birthday, I personally received the imperial order permitting me to compile the above catalogue of Buddhist teachings. Lately, because copying and collating had not yet been fully completed, I was unable to submit it. Prostrating, I reflect that in the eighteenth year of Kaiyuan, the year being gengwu, the śramaṇa Zhisheng of Western Chongfu Temple compiled the Kaiyuan Catalogue of Buddhist Teachings in twenty fascicles. Up to last year, jiaxu, sixty-five years have further passed. During this period, the scriptures translated by tripiṭaka masters have had no official basis for inclusion in the canon, and I feared that with the passage of many years people might suspect they were apocrypha. The Late Sovereign, in the seventh year of Dali, permitted their inclusion in the catalogue, the text of the decree being fully stated as in the upper fascicle, ordering it to be promulgated throughout the capital and provinces. Furthermore, the commentaries and subcommentaries on scriptures and vinayas have already been decreed for circulation. In addition, those newly collected in the Zhenyuan era amount to eighty-six fascicles in all: either imperial decrees of the former emperors or deep favors of the present Emperor leaving encouragement, these inspiring records for the Buddhist community have now been recorded into a catalogue in three fascicles, along with three scriptures such as the Sūtra of Questioning the Buddha on Nārāyaṇa's Strength in twelve fascicles. Humbly I pray that these may ascend to support the imperial throne with a long and vast precious calendar, that the merit of the Crown Prince and the various princes may extend across ten thousand undertakings, that the civil and military ministers and officials may show utmost filial piety and loyalty, that the Three Jewels may ever flourish, and that distant places remain tranquil while nearby regions stay orderly. If this should reach imperial hearing and receive holy grace and approval, I prostrate and beg that it be proclaimed throughout the realm for circulation. Braving the imperial majesty, I humbly hope for a thorough inspection. Respectfully submitted: On the twenty-fourth day of the fourth month of the eleventh year of Zhenyuan, submitted by Yuanzhao, Scripture-Translating and Platform-Officiating Śramaṇa of Ximing Temple.
