Sūtra on the Buddha Together with His Father's Younger Brother Devadatta, in one fascicle (Master Dao'an says that fifty sūtras from the Fifty-Five Dharmas downward come from the Abhidharma; now there are only nine; in one text's listing of retranslations, this is the Sūtra on the Demon King Entering Maudgalyāyana's Belly);
Sūtra on Udraka Kāśyapa, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on the Original Hearing of the Four Truths, in one fascicle (Master Dao'an says the above two sūtras are extracted from the Dīrgha-āgama; one text says they come from the Abhidharma);
Sūtra on Yielding Virtue, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on the Qualities of the Worthy, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Mahākaṭhina's Difficult Inquiries, in one fascicle (also titled Great Kaṭhina Sūtra);
Root Treasury Sūtra, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Explaining Ānanda's Upholding of the Precepts, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Ānanda Asking by What Cause Upholding Precepts Entails Seeing Worldly Poverty as well as Spiritual Poverty, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on the Anāthapiṇḍada Clan Asking Who Should Receive Offerings, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Understanding Disputes without Misinterpreting the Sūtra, in one fascicle (it is now suspected that the word jing [sūtra] was added by mistake);
Sūtra on Lodging at a Non-Buddhist Home and Raising Difficult Inquiries about Dwelling Places, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Lodging at a Non-Buddhist Home and Raising Difficult Inquiries about the Source of the Dharma, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on the Power of the Worthy One's Hands, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on the Practice of the Eight Dharmas, in one fascicle;
Uttara Sūtra, in one fascicle (the character is sometimes written as the smaller xià);
Sūtra on Candana Subduing the Buddha, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Evil Persons, in one fascicle;
Sūtra on Nandin and Upananda, in one fascicle (also titled Nandivardhana Sūtra);
Sūtra on the Difficult Inquiries of the Elders of the Four Castes, in one fascicle (the old catalogue calls it Sūtra on the Elders of the Four Castes);
Sūtra on Subduing the Buddha, in one fascicle;
Chapter on Essential Words in the Daodi jing, in one fascicle (also titled Minor Daodi jing; it is now suspected that this is the translation made by Zhi Yao);
Chapter on Contemplating and Training the Mind, in one fascicle (the old catalogue calls it Shu jing; Master Dao'an says the above two sūtras come from the Jātaka Sūtra; Sengyou notes that the present Jātaka Sūtra contains no such chapter titles);
The eighty-two works in eighty-two fascicles above (the first sūtra, Bhadrapāla, etc., is extant, while the rest are all missing).
These are all the ancient texts compiled by Master Dao'an in Sengyou's catalogue. Since they are called "ancient texts", it is evident that they belong to an early period. Now they are compiled at the end of the Han dynasty as texts of lost origins. Master Dao'an's original catalogue contained a total of ninety-two ancient texts. Now, regarding the other ten sūtras, an examination of various catalogues indicates that they either note their translators or are separate offshoots; since they are already recorded there, they are eliminated from this section. Together with the previously mentioned fifty-nine works in seventy-six fascicles of old lost translations, there are altogether one hundred forty-one works in one hundred fifty-eight fascicles, all regarded as texts of lost origins from the Han dynasty.
