爾時世尊從三昧起，坐師子座，告大眾言：「吾知十六諸國王等咸作是念：『世尊大慈，普皆利樂。我等諸王，云何護國？』善男子！吾今先為諸菩薩摩訶薩，說護佛果、護十地行。汝等皆應諦聽諦聽，善思念之。」

At that time, the Bhagavat arose from samādhi, sat upon the lion throne, and addressed the great assembly: "I know that the sixteen kings of states and others all have this thought: 'The Bhagavat is of great compassion, universally benefiting and bringing joy to all. How should we kings protect our states?' Good sons! I shall now first expound for the bodhisattva mahāsattvas the protection of the Buddha fruition and the protection of the practices of the ten stages. You must all listen attentively, listen attentively, and reflect on it well."
