The Buddha told King Prasenajit: "After my nirvāṇa, when the Dharma is about to perish, because all sentient beings create evil karma, all kinds of disasters will arise in every state. If kings, in order to protect themselves, their crown princes, princes, queens, consorts, retinues, hundred officials, common people, and their entire realms, will immediately receive and uphold this Prajñāpāramitā, they will all attain peace and happiness. I entrust this sūtra to kings; I do not entrust it to bhikṣus, bhikṣuṇīs, upāsakas, or upāsikās. Why is that? Without a king's majestic power, it cannot be established. Therefore, you should constantly receive, uphold, read, recite, and explain it.
