2.67

The Buddha told King Prasenajit: "I now admonish you! After my nirvāṇa, when the true Dharma is on the verge of extinction—after fifty years, after five hundred years, after five thousand years—there will be no Buddha, Dharma, or Saṅgha. This sūtra and the Three Jewels are entrusted to the kings of states to establish and safeguard, so that my fourfold assembly of disciples may receive, uphold, read, recite, and understand their meanings, broadly proclaiming the essentials of the Dharma for sentient beings and causing them to practice and escape birth and death.
