"Subhūti, what do you think? Can a srotāpanna think: 'I have attained the fruit of a srotāpanna'?"
Subhūti said, "No, Bhagavat. Why is this? A srotāpanna is called a 'stream-enterer', yet there is nothing entered: one does not enter forms, sounds, scents, tastes, tangible objects, or dharmas. This is called a srotāpanna."
"Subhūti, what do you think? Can a sakṛdāgāmin think: 'I have attained the fruit of a sakṛdāgāmin'?"
Subhūti said, "No, Bhagavat. Why is this? A sakṛdāgāmin is called 'once-returning', yet in truth there is no going or coming. This is called a sakṛdāgāmin."
"Subhūti, what do you think? Can an anāgāmin think: 'I have attained the fruit of an anāgāmin'?"
Subhūti said, "No, Bhagavat. Why is this? An anāgāmin is called 'non-returning', yet in truth there is no non-returning. Therefore, they are called an anāgāmin."
