Exposition: The first verse is the dharmakāya realized without [ordinary] realization; the latter verse is the saṃbhogakāya arising through cultivation. In the first, the upper two lines explain the previous text in the sūtra designating "nothing obtained." The lower two lines explain and establish the aforementioned meaning of "unexcelled." Within this, the line "the dharmadhātu does not increase or decrease" directly explains this text. Its prose says: "'Does not increase or decrease' means that this dharma is equal; therefore it is called unexcelled, because there is nothing further superior." This is because within the dharmadhātu the arising of virtues is not an increase and the cessation of afflictions is not a decrease; there being no dharma that can surpass this, it is called unexcelled. If there were increase or decrease, it would not be unexcelled. That commentary assimilates marks back into nature, so it belongs to the dharmakāya; this treatise treats nature and marks separately, so it belongs to the saṃbhogakāya. They also do not contradict each other.
