2.45

經。皆得成就無量無邊功德　演曰。第二攝福德分二。初標多後校量顯勝。此初也以此持經之福在於地前有漏熏習資無漏種。遠與佛果四智而為疎緣。近與十地無漏亦為增上緣。與十地位十王果報為異熟因故。彼論下解何福業中云所謂攝受四天王釋提桓因等成就勢力故。中應敘十王果報所生之處故。言功德無量無邊。

Sūtra: '…shall all attain the accomplishment of measureless and boundless merit.'
Exposition: The second, 'gathering merit', is divided into two: first, marking the quantity, and later, weighing the comparison to show its superiority. This is the first. Because this merit of upholding the sūtra is an impure perfuming prior to the bhūmis that nourishes pure seeds, it serves distantly as an indirect condition for the four wisdoms of the Buddha fruit, serves closely as a predominant condition for the uncontaminated state of the ten bhūmis, and serves as a ripening cause for the retributions of the ten kings in the stages of the ten bhūmis. Therefore, below in that treatise, in explaining what meritorious action it is, it says: 'namely, gathering and receiving the four heavenly kings, Śakra Devānām Indra, and so forth, accomplishing influence.' Therein it describes the places of rebirth as the retributions of the ten kings; therefore it says that the merit is measureless and boundless.
