Sūtra: If there is someone who can, up to inconceivable merit. Exposition: Praising the practitioners has four [parts]: first, adducing the practice; second, accomplishing superior virtue; third, shouldering the correct Dharma; fourth, excluding those of unfit capacity. These are the first two. From "The Tathāgata fully knows" onward is the second text. Question: What is the difference between the Buddha's knowing spoken earlier and this? Answer: Earlier, it concerned mindful recollection and intimacy—holding them in memory as spoken, such persons as these; here, it concerns the fact that only the Buddha can know, whereas others cannot know the merit and so forth accomplished by practitioners who practice the Dharma. Thus the two intentions differ. The explanation of the text is as before. This is precisely the fourth line of that treatise: "fulfilling the unsurpassed realm." "Realm" (dhātu) has the meaning of "cause."
