According to the commentary's intention, although the speaker and what is spoken are profound, there are also those of the Mahāyāna lineage who can believe. "Non-sentient beings" is because their substance is not ordinary persons; "not non-sentient beings" is because they possess noble nature. Those persons are not ordinary sentient beings, nor are they not sentient beings of noble substance. This treatise explains it in terms of the ultimate and conventional truths, while that commentary explains it based on ordinary and noble [beings]. Because bodhisattvas on the [ten] grounds are able to have deep faith, the targeted meaning differs. Alternatively, it is explained in terms of having nature versus lacking nature: "noble substance" applies both to the seed and to actual manifestation. Alternatively, it is explained in terms of having generated the aspiration versus not having generated it, because those who have generated the aspiration are called the noble embryo in six [stages].
