[Sūtra:] "Extremely many, World-Honoured One." / [Exposition:] The second is answering that they are many. In accordance with the other translations of the sūtra, the following three passages are all Subhūti's words forming the Buddha's dust metaphor. In this treatise, since there are many dust motes, how could there be a real substance of the rūpakāya? In that treatise, because defilements are exhausted and the principle of tathatā is realized, the arising of transformations is exceedingly manifold. However, this [text] calls it a 'multitude' (眾) while other versions call it an 'aggregate' (聚); thus the Zhenguan translation says: 'That aggregate of fine dust motes is extremely many, World-Honoured One.' This and the Wei sūtra name the aggregate as 'multitude'; the other four sūtra translations name the multitude as 'aggregate'. It is clear to know that 'multitude' and 'aggregate' have the same meaning.
