The commentary states: "Although this austere practice is identical to a suffering result, yet in this austere practice there is no fatigue. Because it possesses the perfection of patience, it is termed the foremost. 'The other shore' has two meanings: first, the essence of the pure wholesome roots of pāra[mitā]; second, that the virtues of the other shore are immeasurable. As the sūtra says, 'is therefore no perfection'—as for 'no perfection,' it is because no one knows the shore of that virtue." / Exposition: The sūtra stating "the Tathāgata explains the perfection of patience" is because it possesses the essence of pure wholesome roots. Furthermore, saying "is no" is because it is immeasurable. On account of these two meanings it is called foremost. The rest of the meaning may be known.
