Sūtra: "Subhūti, […] [Śākya]muni."
Exposition: Under the specific establishment below, relying on this treatise's outline, doubts are resolved successively. The text is divided into six: first, that without dharma one receives prophecy; second, that tathatā cannot be spoken; third, that the Buddha does not attain bodhi; fourth, the negation of grasping at increase and decrease; fifth, that tathatā pervades all dharmas; sixth, establishing the paramārtha. The first has two parts: reverse explanation and direct establishment. This is the first. Relying on that treatise's outline, there are two parts: first, explaining by dharmas to sever doubts; second, from "Just as a person's body is tall and large" below, explaining by metaphor to sever doubts. The first contains six parts, which are the previous six sections, with some similarities and differences, to be distinguished as the text arrives. The treatise says: "What is the intention here? If the dharma of correct awakening could be spoken, like what was spoken by that Dīpaṃkara Tathāgata, I would have attained correct awakening at that time, and Dīpaṃkara Tathāgata would not have bestowed the prophecy, saying 'In the future you shall attain...' and so on. Because that dharma cannot be spoken, I did not attain correct awakening at that time, and therefore he bestowed the prophecy upon me." Exposition: If the dharma of correct awakening could be spoken according to words, having a real entity, and I had real superior practice at that time, why did I not attain it? Precisely because correct awakening has no entity corresponding to words, and I had no real superior practice at that time, therefore at that time I did not attain correct awakening, but was only bestowed the prophecy that I would attain bodhi in the future. That treatise is also the same. Its verse says:
