經。須菩提□□□□□□□□□□□□□行施文□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□現□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□起□□□□□□□□□□□說多福□□□□□前重□□□□□□□□□差別義故。一漸化義。欲令眾生漸次信解入上妙義故。復漸以勝福校量。二成勝德。前說此經能為佛因。未顯有何殊勝功德。今為明此故重校量故。天親論頌。此義云。說多義差別亦成勝□後福過於前故。重說勝喻。

Sūtra: 'Subhūti, […]' […] The text on performing giving […] manifests […] giving rise to […] speaking of abundant merit […] previously repeating […] for the sake of distinctive meanings. First, the meaning of gradual transformation: wishing to cause sentient beings to gradually have faith-and-understanding and enter into the supreme and sublime meaning, he again gradually makes comparisons with superior merit. Second, the accomplishment of superior virtues: previously it was stated that this sūtra can serve as the cause of Buddhahood, but it had not yet revealed what exceptional virtues it possesses; now, to clarify this, he makes comparisons again. Therefore, the verse in Vasubandhu’s commentary states regarding this meaning: 'Explaining multiple meanings with distinction, / Also accomplishing superior [virtues]; / The later merit surpasses the former, / Hence the superior analogy is repeated.'
