The first line explains the passage from 'Furthermore, wherever this sūtra is spoken' onward, which generally and specifically reveals the reverence at the two places. The remaining three lines explain the sūtra passage from 'The Tathāgata has nothing spoken' onward, all of which are comparisons revealing the superior merit of the sūtra. Since the inner scripture possesses such superior virtues, it is not comparable to those external treatises, which increase distraction and create extremely numerous obstacles. For this reason, bodhisattvas should not take pleasure in clinging to them, but should only rely on the sūtra to practice the conduct of the abode for departing from obstacles.
