Sūtra: "Ordinary people... are not ordinary people." / Commentary: This is the refutation of the foolish ordinary person. How could there merely be an absence of that produced self? Do not say that there is actually a person capable of producing grasping; in the ultimate truth there is no arising, so what ordinary person could there be? In conventional truth, in terms of conversion, it is also not real; hence 'ordinary people are not ordinary people.' Other editions have 'foolish ordinary persons' (bālapṛthagjana), which means they receive deviant views and are repeatedly reborn.
